How Long is This Going to Take?
For many clients, the first questions I hear are "How much is this going to cost?" and "How long is this going to take?" Unfortunately, the answer to both questions is it depends.
For Family Law cases involving child support, child custody, equitable distribution, alimony, post separation support and, ultimately, absolute divorce you're looking at 12-18 months or more. With that said, if both parties are willing to compromise a well-drafted Separation Agreement can reduce both the time and expense of a divorce. If the parties reach an agreement on most or all of the terms, the court can integrate the parties' Separation Agreement into the final Divorce Decree.
